Transition from DUNS to Unique Entity Identifier ID (UEI)
On April 4, 2022, the federal government will transition from using the DUNS Number to using the new Unique Entity ID (UEI) generated at SAM.gov as the entity identifier for federal awards. The Unique Entity ID (UEI) will be the authoritative identifier starting April 4, 2022.
A Unique Entity ID (UEI) is a unique 12-character alphanumeric value assigned to all entities (public and private companies, individuals, institutions, or organizations) who register to do business with the federal government. The transition will allow the government to streamline entity identification and validation, making it easier to do business with the federal government.
Several FAS/MAS systems already started accepting the Unique Entity ID (SAM) including GSA eLibrary, GSA Advantage, GSA eBuy., eOffer and eMod.
If your entity is registered in SAM.gov, the Unique Entity ID (SAM) has automatically been assigned, including inactive and expired registrations. You can find your information by selecting the Entity Management in your Workspace on SAM.gov or by signing in and searching for Entity Information.
