New SIN 132 56 Announced for GSA Schedule 70 Contracts

In recent years, the Health Information Technology (Health IT) market has grown exponentially into a $21.9 billion industry.  It is projected to grow at 7.4% and reach $31.3 billion by 2017.  The General Services Administration (GSA) has received an abundance of requests from customers for Health IT solutions and has henceforth created Schedule 70 Special Item Number (SIN) 132 56.  The new SIN will help agencies pinpoint Health IT Service vendors more easily and allow vendors to clearly differentiate themselves from other IT Service companies.  Overall, by creating this SIN, GSA is further reaching their goal of providing customers with new and pioneering services. Details and Facts

Although Schedule 70 is used for both products and services, SIN 132 56 is allocated strictly for services. A few examples of Health IT services include:  electronic health records, health information exchanges, and personal health information management.  For more examples click here.  Due to the nature of these services, there are several security regulations that vendors need abide by. These regulations include the Privacy Act of 1974, the Homeland Security Presidential Directive, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), among others.  For a complete list click here.  SIN 132 56 is available for businesses of all different sizes and existing contract holders can speak with their Contracting Officer about performing a Schedule 70 contract modification (eMod) to include Health IT Services.
