Federal Procurement Modernization: FPDS.gov and eSRS.gov Retired as Key Functions Move to SAM.gov

Federal procurement reporting is undergoing major transformation as GSA continues its multi‑year modernization effort. Two long‑standing systems—FPDS.gov and eSRS.gov—have now been retired, with their core functions fully transitioned into SAM.gov. These changes streamline data access, consolidate reporting tools, and align federal procurement systems with updated regulatory requirements.

Contract Award Searches Transition from FPDS.gov to SAM.gov

GSA has officially retired the public search capabilities of FPDS.gov, redirecting all users to SAM.gov for contract award data. All previously available FPDS award information is now accessible through SAM’s contracting search features, which require a Login.gov-enabled SAM account.

Key enhancements in SAM.gov include:

  • Integrated navigation between Contract Opportunities, Contract Awards, and Subaward Reporting
  • More intuitive search filters, including partial‑match capability
  • New drop‑down “Pickers” for easier filtering
  • A consistent user experience across SAM.gov tools

The FPDS ATOM Feed is also being phased out and replaced by the SAM.gov Contract Awards API, with full retirement scheduled for July 31, 2026. Contractors relying on automated data ingestion should begin transitioning to the new API to avoid disruptions.

Subcontracting Plan Reporting Moves from eSRS.gov to SAM.gov

GSA has also decommissioned eSRS.gov, migrating subcontracting plan reporting into SAM.gov. The first release, launched on February 24, 2026, introduced several core capabilities:

  • Search and display for federal and entity users
  • Entity workspace access
  • ISR and SSR data entry
  • Closeout reporting

A second release on March 24, 2026, will add:

  • Anomaly reporting
  • Outbound API functionality
  • AI‑assisted report review

Only active eSRS users were automatically transitioned, and contractors must ensure they have the correct SAM.gov roles to submit or review subcontracting reports. Updated role guidance is available on SAM.gov/esrs.

What These Changes Mean for Contractors

The consolidation of FPDS.gov and eSRS.gov into SAM.gov is designed to reduce redundancy, improve data accuracy, and streamline compliance. Contractors will benefit from:

  • A centralized platform for award data and subcontracting reporting
  • More intuitive tools that reduce administrative burden
  • Better alignment with upcoming regulatory changes, including the FAR overhaul

These transitions also require contractors to update internal processes, confirm user permissions, and adapt any automated systems to new APIs.
